FAQs
GENERAL INFO
What does your music studio teach?
I teach piano, drums, ukulele lessons, music theory and note reading.
What styles do you teach for the piano or drums?
I teach all styles on both piano and drums set.
What are the age ranges of your students?
I take students starting at age 6 and above. If you have a child younger than 6 years old, please contact me anyway.
What methods do you use?
I don't have a particular method for teaching but I draw from my personal experiences as a teacher and a musician. I also find out what the student enjoys playing and we use that to guide our lessons so it's fun, interesting and informative. Anything can be used as a learning tool: pop songs, classical, movie themes, TV show themes, jazz, etc.
How long will it take me (or my child) to play well?
I love this question because I would charge a lot more if I could make people "good" in about a month. First, being good at something is subjective, however, the only way to progress is with consistent, daily practice and having a good time while you develop your skills and enthusiasm for what you are learning. Before you know it, you will be much better than you were when you started.
How many times a week should I have lessons?
One session per week is enough to develop what you were assigned during your weekly lesson. Lessons for kids are usually 30 minutes long, and lessons for adults are 45 minutes to an hour long. Please CONTACT ME for further information.
Would you travel to our house for lessons?
If you live in Chicago within a 15-20 minute drive from where I live, I can teach in your home. Otherwise, I will teach virtually on Zoom.
Do you give discounts?
If you have two or more people taking lessons who live in the same household, I will give a discount for each student. I also give referral incentives if you are currently taking lessons and want to recommend me to others - THANK YOU! Please CONTACT ME to schedule your first lesson.
PIANO INFO
Do I need a piano or keyboard to take lessons?
In order to progress with any new skill, you do need a tool with which to consistently practice. For most people just starting out, a good keyboard is sufficient. As you develop your skills, an upgrade to a more advanced keyboard or even a piano (if it works for your neighbors) may be a rewarding investment.
DRUM INFO
Do I need a drum set to take lessons?
If you don't have one, a drum set is not necessary at the beginning, as basic hand and stick coordination needs to develop. For starters, a pair of sticks and a drum pad will be sufficient. However, as your skill level and interests grow, or you decide to join a band, for example, a drum set will be necessary. This will also depend on how much practice time your neighbors are willing deal with. As I've been in touchy apartment situations, I have many solutions that can be tried. Please contact me if you have questions.
LOCATION INFO
Where is your studio located?
I’m located in Chicago, in the Roscoe Village area and will teach within 20 minutes from there. I also teach virtually anywhere in the country on Zoom.
